The DigiSail online course is dedicated to raising awareness of the potential of gaming for the promotion of sports. Particularly, it is focused on how the use of the Virtual Regatta platform can be used by sailing federations and clubs to increase participation in the sport, communicating with young people and breaking barriers of access to the sport of sailing.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a sharp increase in the number of players on the Virtual Regatta online platform. This trend coincided with a widely conducted analysis of data on the use of gaming in the promotion of sports. Polish Yachting Association decided to implement a similar mechanism and use it to promote sport among young people. The aim of the project is to investigate the correlation between traditional sailing and virtual sailing. In addition, it is planned to implement the Virtual Regatta platform as a tool to increase public participation in sailing in partner countries, as well as to create comprehensive instruction addressed to sailing federations and sports clubs in order to increase public participation in traditional sailing.

The expected effects include increasing the participation of young people in sailing at the federation, district and club level, overcoming economic and communication barriers among people interested in sailing, developing attractive forms of communication with young people and creating new forms of sailing promotion.
